JGI has received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America's largest independent evaluator of charities. The rating recognizes JGI’s efficiency and effectiveness in its efforts to protect chimpanzees and their habitats, promote sustainable livelihoods in Africa and provide young people with the tools and support they need to make a difference in their communities and beyond. Charity Navigator Since 2001, Charity Navigator has reviewed more than 5,000 charities using an objective, numbers-based formula designed to measure an organization’s efficiency and organizational capacity. More than 4 million donors in 2007 alone used the site to make decisions about where to give their money. Receiving four out of four stars is extremely difficult, particularly given the economic challenges many charities have had to face in the last year. Since charities compete for evaluation against others in their particular cause, four stars show that JGI has outperformed most other wildlife conservation organizations. Wise Giving Alliance In FY 2006 JGI spent 81% of total expenses on programs, and 19% on administrative and fundraising expenses. This is more than 15% of what is required for BBB accreditation standards. JGI programs span over seven African countries, addressing everything from the illegal bushmeat trade to chimpanzee habitat depletion. Its Roots & Shoots program is a youth-driven network that supports tens of thousands of young people in almost 100 countries who study problems in their communities and take action through service projects, global campaigns and an interactive website. Guidestar JGI is also voluntarily profiled by Guidestar, a comprehensive database that provides information for 1.7 million organizations.
