SEVEN YOUTH GIVE ALL TO WELCOMING BUILDING CAMPAIGN FOR FIRST RIDE

SEVEN YOUTH GIVE ALL TO WELCOMING BUILDING CAMPAIGN FOR FIRST RIDE

Our auction sure was exciting. There were so many goodies to bid on and just the money we had. At the SVUUS Kids' Auction, everyone always starts with same amount of green – $20. Choices abound. Each bidder wonders what they will spend it on and if they will get any of the items they’ve been keeping their eye on.

And then, sometimes, that whole process gets trumped by an opportunity to take a stand and
make a difference. And it feels really good!

Auctioneer Pam Murray put forward an unexpected item for bid, this year. “Who of you would like to bid it all – all of your money – to take the first ride on our new elevator? Anyone?”

Seven (!) SVUUS youth rose and GAVE IT ALL to stand for this project, passing up an array of toys and games (not to mention the excitement of the bidding process) to support the project. Isabelle Burns, Maggie Burns, Fred Gurney, Judith Korbanka, Meredith Larsen, Palmer Larsen, and Kate Lowry came to the front to guarantee their place on that first ride up. – That first ride that will connect all of our program areas and open all of our activities to kids and adults of any ability.

Thanks (!) to these generous youth for their support, and to all of the kids and teens who live our principles in their acts of kindness, generosity and social action every day. And thanks to all the REGAL volunteers and staff throughout the years who have nurtured these kids!

If you haven’t had a chance to work beside, talk with or otherwise be in community with our AMAZING SVUUS youth, then decide today to sign up soon. SVUUS youth are up to making a difference in their world. Not to mention being fun, full of insights and, well, just great people.

These kids are truly awesome! They are our future and I believe they are here to challenge all grown-ups to walk the talk of social action, justice and living our UU Principles. Without hesitation, they raise their hands to volunteer, take a stand, and support each other in nurturing, meaningful ways. They're a powerful bunch and I'm proud we can offer them a project worthy of their involvement. In community, Pamela Murray
