Thank you for the opportunity to tell you what the Welcoming Building Capital Campaign means to me.  I am so excited that we have embarked on this journey.  Not only will all areas of the church be accessible to our members, it will open membership to those who were interested in joining our congregation, but did not because of the building’s physical limitations.

The building will be more rentable and when the time comes that we decide to sell the church (hopefully because our membership has increased so much) it will be more inviting to potential buyers. But, to me, there is nothing that validates our decision to become a welcoming building more than seeing Carla Gourdin, who has been a South Valley member for a long time and has been confined to a wheelchair since her teens, bid and win the first ride down in
the new elevator at the 2008 auction. It was a thrill!

These are tight economic times for all of us. George and I asked my father (a staunch Episcopalian) to contribute to the fund for our Christmas and birthday presents. We have enough “things” and this present means more to us than receiving material goods. 

Just as Barack Obama financed his successful campaign with many small donations we too can have a successful building campaign in the same way. We can all give up one small thing and give the saved money – be it ever so small – to the South Valley Welcoming Building Campaign and we will be successful. 

By the way, my father said he was delighted to contribute to the campaign – after all, this was once an Episcopal church.
