Yes!
We have entered that wonderful dirty, dusty CONSTRUCTION phase of the Welcoming Building Project.
After several rounds of due diligence
, Cottonwood Heights has approved our Welcoming Building project and issued construction permits! Val and his construction crew are already at work on the restroom
and excavation has begun on the south side of the building in preparation for our elevator shaft. You can see renderings of the new shaft HERE, as well as see them posted at the Welcoming Building table in the lobby.
More than 30 friends of the project braved the fall chill and impending
snow storm this past Saturday, October 11th, to break ground together and begin to live our welcome in the very bricks and mortor of our building. There were games, words, music, memories, good food and more than enough warmth in our community to combat the chill. Enjoy pictures of the event HERE.
Pam Murray gets kudos
for a great event, as well as for uncanny timing -- excavation in that very spot began within days of the event.
Every big project needs some big money, but the Welcoming Building Project is a project that everyone deserves to own, no matter how large or small their contribution in time or money. To reflect this premise, the Welcoming Building Campaign has established two primary goals:
- Involving everyone in giving and celebrating.
- Raising $143,000 to support the welcoming building and related projects.
Please contact co-chairs D. D. Hilke at d2athome@comcast.net and Pam Murray at p1murray@msn.com to learn more and to add your ideas and talents to the project! There are events to plan, posters to be made, testimonials to give and hear, and pledges to be solicited. Help us make it happen!
