The Filoha Hamadryas Project

RESOURCE: The Filoha Hamadryas Project

The Filoha Hamadryas Project focuses on the behavioral biology and socioecology of wild hamadryas baboons. The Project began in 1996 as a collaborative effort between the Awash National Park Baboon Research Project (ongoing since 1973) and the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Organization. Today, the Filoha Hamadryas Project includes researchers from the City University of New York, the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, and the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Department. Ongoing research at Filoha includes studies on the social behavior, reproductive strategies, behavioral ecology, and vocal communication of hamadryas baboons.
