Issues
Conduct: My first priority is to represent the people of 10th District with openness, honesty, and respect. Disagreements among legislators and with constituents should be settled through courteous discussion. Only open-mindedness can produce meaningful exchanges of opinions and ideas. Openness produces accountability and trust.
Schools: I know first-hand how underfunded our schools are and how little our teachers are paid. My wife is a school teacher at Westvale Elementary. We pay for school supplies for her classroom out of our family budget. I also know that large class sizes prevent my wife from giving the individual attention she wants to provide and that her students need. I will work to enact legislation to reduce class size, increase per-pupil spending, and give Utah teachers respectable compensation.
Water: Water, Utah's most precious resource, must be protected. The explosive growth our State has experienced makes efficient management of our water resources a top priority. We must also keep promoting renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. I will support water conservation legislation including tax incentives for businesses and home owners who invest in clean renewable energy sources.
Balance: Twenty-two years of business experience has taught me the realities of budgetary constraints. Fiscal responsibility has to be balanced with legislative priorities. I will support legislation that is fiscally responsible and meets the needs of our fellow citizens.
