Minister, Social Action, Youth Columns: Youth Column
This is your own UU Youth column for comments on climate change and global warming. Let's show the old folks that you really want to do something about this huge problem! What can you do to get the facts out on global warming and how can you help? Discussing and organizing action is the purpose of the Youth Column.
There are lots of things you can do, personal actions and collective actions. Here is WHY we need to act:
--------------------
Here's what you need to do in order to participate:
1. Become a member of this Climate Portal
2. Then you can write something on the Youth Blog
--------------------
You might get some ideas HERE, a website called "It's Getting Hot In Here - Dispatches from the Youth Climate Movement". From their site: "It’s Getting Hot in Here is the voice of a growing movement. A community media project, it features the student and youth leaders from the movement to stop global warming and to build a more just and sustainable future. Read more...". And HERE is the link for the Sierra Student Coalition.

Next generation of green leaders meet at UNEP youth conference (LINK)
Washington, D.C./Berkeley, California, July 26, 2010 - Hip hop performances, an eco-friendly dance floor and dinner aboard a hybrid ferry were among the more unusual highlights of the Tunza North American (Tunzana) Youth Network Conference, held from July 23-25 in California.

Here is a really important suggestion for concrete action - learn and use educational material to "Counter the Contrarians". This will be useful in helping to move forward for climate action by countering misleading disinformation generally put out by right-wing media and supported by the fossil fuel industry. Some contrarians assert that there is no global warming ("it's a myth"). Other contrarians say that there is global warming, but humans are not causing it. Still others contend that there is human-caused global warming, but it is beneficial. Finally others assert that while human-caused global warming exists and is bad, it's too expensive to try to stop it. These people are wrong, they're holding up progress on action on global warming, and they can be loud and aggressive.
Let's just put the loud and aggressive contrarian approach this way:
--------------------
Who's the cool guy in the photo? It's the Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark. He inaugurated the outdoor exhibition '100 Places to Remember Before they Disappear' at Copenhagen's central square, Kongens Nytorv. Among the speakers were Danish Climate Minister and EU Climate Commissioner to-be. Connie Hedegaard, former Court Marshal Sren Haslund-Christensen, Deep Sea Sailor and Author Troels Klvedal and Suzlon's Head of Global Wind&Site Jrgen Hjstrup.
